- One benefit and drawback to European and Native American interaction was the Colombian Exchange. The Colombian exchange was a trade system of things such as animals, plants, disease, culture, and technology, between America and Afro-Europe. It created a strong diversity in each continent of livestock and crops. This caused a population increase. When the Europeans came and explored the Americas they came to conquer and claim what they thought was theirs. They declared superiority over the Natives. This disrupt caused conflict between the two. The Europeans were far more advanced in technology in things such as weaponry and transportation. This caused the Natives to have a slight disadvantage. When the Europeans came, they also brought something without their knowing, disease. The Native Americans were not immune to these diseases and got very sick and a majority of them died.
- Patriot - The Patriots were colonist supporters of independence from British Empire. They saw the opportunity to become an independent nation. Their group contained people of various race, social, and economic background. Many African Americans helped to fight alongside, but a majority of the Native Americans felt threatened by the colonists. They rejected taxation because they thought it was unfair.
- Loyalist - The Loyalist had opposed the independence from the British ruling and remained loyal. Many thought that the British were going to win, so they wanted to avoid punishment from rebellion. They also thought that the King would be able to protect and have better control than if they had created their own system of government.
- Neutral - Minority of the Americans tried to stay neutral during the war, not deciding on either the Patriot or Loyalist views.
Long term causes of the civil war are either social, political, and economical. Socially, abolition was a majorly controversial. The Southerners didn't support it but the majority of Northerners did. Abraham Lincoln was a huge supporters of abolition and when he was elected president, because of his views and opinions on events such as this, triggered the Civil War its self. Also when Uncle Tom's Cabin, by Harriet Beecher Stowe, controversy increased. When new states entered into the Union, politically, there were debates to whether or not they should be slave states or free states. Bleeding Kansas was one of the battles that took place when it became a state from the Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854. Economically, after the Civil War took place, Reconstruction was in place. The southerners main source of income was slave labor. When they were defeated, they had no one to work for them. The south wasn't as industrialized like it was in the north.
